Global Headquarters

The Global headquarters of Special Olympics are in Washington, DC. Around 100 staff members provide support to National Programs worldwide, coordinate awareness campaigns, produce sports rules and organize training seminars, to secure the best service to 2.25 million athletes with intellectual disabilities. Global Headquarters are also responsible for World Games and establish partnerships at international level.

Seven Regions

Special Olympics is represented by branch offices in seven regions: Africa, Asia Pacific, East Asia, Europe/Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East/North Africa and North America. The purpose of regional offices is to provide effective resources to Special Olympics National Programs in the areas of public relations, fundraising, and sports program development, and to coordinate region-wide events and strategies. More than 200 Accredited Programs

There are more than 200 Special Olympics Accredited Programs in more than 160 countries. Accredited Special Olympics Programs are entities authorized by Special Olympics Inc. to organize and conduct Special Olympics training and competition programs within a particular jurisdiction. Accredited programs are operated as an independent legal entity. The board of directors of accredited programs has ultimate legal responsibility for governing the affairs of any accredited program, and the National/Executive Director has the authority and responsibility of managing the day-to-day activities.
